Ripley’s Aquarium, located in downtown Toronto, is Canada’s largest indoor aquarium. The attraction that opened in October 2013, draws scores of people and lineups are notoriously long during peak times. Peak hours are 11 am to 4 pm on weekends and holidays, so it’s best to go on a weekday, if possible. Apart from the having the biggest shark collection in North America, the aquarium is also home to over 16,000 marine animals. With over 100 interactive displays, it will surely take longer than the average time of two and a half hours to get through the entire building.
Avid arcade and video game players will be happy to spend a few hours inside Playdium in Mississauga on a rainy day. The 40,000 sq. ft. facility offers over 200 rides, simulators and games. New innovative games are introduced frequently to entertain repeat visitors. If the weather is nice, head outside to play mini-golf or race in go-karts. Other attractions include a baseball dome, bumper cars and outdoor water wars. This GTA attraction is also a perfect idea for birthday parties and group gatherings.
Canada’s Wonderland in Vaughan boasts 200 attractions, over 60 rides and a 20 acre water park that includes one of Canada’s largest wave pools, White Water Bay. Older kids can ride on the Leviathan, the longest and fastest ride in the entire amusement park. Younger kids can meet their favourite cartoon characters in the children’s area and enjoy a carousel ride. There are also plenty of dining options and live shows to attend, so there is something for everyone in the family!
For a glimpse into the past, visit Medieval Times, located in the Exhibition grounds in Toronto. This attraction, set in Medieval Spain, features an authentic four-course 11th century feast and a jousting competition pits six fierce knights against one another. The costumes, props and horses will entertain and wow kids. There is also a dancehall and a medieval artifacts museum.
These attractions are perfect for both locals and visitors to the GTA, and each are easily accessible via car and local subway or bus transportation. The Mary-am Hotel North York is an ideal choice if you’re visiting from out of town as it’s conveniently located near many transportation routes and major highways.
